Basic Water Provision Standards for Schools:

  • The School should have water supply systems for utility use
  • The school's water supply system should ensure a safe and sufficient supply of water for drinking and household purposes (hand washing, cooking, washing toilets, cleaning the premises);
  • The drinking water used in the school should be safe for health and its quality should comply with the requirements of the Government of Georgia No. 58 of January 15, 2014 on the Approval of the Technical Regulation of Drinking Water;

General requirements for provision of sanitary-hygienic conditions in the school

The toilets of the school should be: appropriately equipped, convenient, private, protected, clean, appropriate to the level of cultural and social development of the community, accessible to schoolchildren and staff, including those with disabilities. All school buildings with indoor sanitation facilities must meet the following requirements:

  • Toilets for girls and boys should be arranged on all floors of the school;
  •  There should be a separate toilet (sanitary unit) for teachers and other staff in the building with an independent entrance;
  • The sanitary unit should not be directly in or near the entrance to the building;
  • The sanitary unit must be permanently enclosed before the entrance to the sanitary unit or storage area or space so that specific odors are not emitted into the corridors or foyer;
  • Sanitary units should have both natural and artificial lighting and ventilation. It is also possible to install artificial ventilation systems;
